Anything Goes at Polkadoodles!

We all know Christmas is a busy time and Polkadoodles have made the challenge nice and simple for you this fortnight with an Anything Goes theme. I have switched away from Christmas and have been using the Serenity Collection. I had a hard time deciding which of the great digis to use so have printed off several different ones as well as sentiments and papers from the collection to play with.
Fairies mean lots of glitter and sparkle so my Stickles will be getting a workout!!

I have coloured the Serenity Joyful digi using the following Copic markers:
Dress: BG10, BG53, R81, RV32
Hair: Y21, E33, E35
Skin: E51, E53, YR01, E04
Grass: G24, YG67

I used a circle doiley die to cut the card shape and a fence die in  the background . The stitched dies were from Dienamics. I love these...my first time of using them and I would love other shapes!
Paper was edged with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.

I cut the leaves using a frond punch from Punch Bunch. Mulberry Paper flowers were from my stash adding lots of sparkle with Waterfall Stickles.
What will you put in the challenge?

Christmas Pyramid Chocolate Box

It has been a very busy last few weeks for me...thankfully the wonderful Polkadoodles CD and instand download collections came to the rescue for my Christmas make today!
I used the printable pyramid box from Work and Play 5- Festive Hollybobs. I have used elements from this collection several times now. The box was the first one I have made and it was very easy to assemble. I just ran my scissor blade down the lines using a ruler and added some double sided tape to the tabs and a swipe of distress ink (I used Brushed Corduroy).

The image and sentiment were also from this collection. These ones were pre coloured but they are also available as an outline for you to colour yourself...I do love to colour but was lacking time this week!
I added some waterfall stickles and the die I used in the background was from Cottage Cutz- Poinsettia and Holly Spray.
Foam tape helped add some dimension as did a few twists of the sprays on the diecut.
Now to make a few dozen more for Christmas Day!
Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting,
Jackie

Oh, please make sure you enter the Polkadoodles current challenge with all of your Christmas makes for the traditional Christmas challenge this fortnight.

Polkadoodles

Well , it is always fun to play around with the challenge of using white and just one other colour and that is exactly the theme over at Polkadoodles Challenge Blog this fortnight.
I used a great image from the Work and Play 10 CD- Country Life. This collection is also available as an instant download and isn't the woodgrain backing paper perfect? That can also be found in the collection along with sentiments and embellishments.
I coloured the image using my Copics:
E42, E30, E47, E84, E87
The dies I used were Spellbinders in'spire Feathers On The Wind and
Cheery Lynn Frame Die- Chicken Wire.
All pieces were inked using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink

What do you think you will create for the Challenge?
Hoping you get some crafting time over the weekend! Jackie x

This week is the start of a new challenge at Polkadoodles Challenge Blog and it is time to get on your bling!
I have used Hollybobs Mistletoe for my card and have created a scene using a die from Frantic Stamper (Evergreen Trio) using  Diamond Dust to create a sparkly snow effect. Glossy Accents is great for sticking it down. The Snowflake Paper, Happy Christmas and Bow were from the Work and Play 5 Collection. All paper pieces were edged with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
Hollybobs Mistletoe is available as a digi here or you can buy it as part of the Work and Play 5 Collection-  Festive Hollybobs. I love the disc or download of this collection for all the great images (ready to colour or pre coloured), sentiments, accents and papers. Such great value as well. If you are looking for other ideas using this collection I have several already on my blog.
If you don't like colouring there is a coloured version available but here are the colours I used in Copic Markers:

Use a Die Cut Challenge- Polkadoodles

  • I am happily making some special Christmas Cards using the Work and Play 5- Festive Hollybobs collection. It has been school holidays here and so I had a bit more time up my sleeve to get out my Copics and colour. The great thing about the collections at Polkadoodles is that if you don't have much time you can just print off the image in colour.
The digi image today is Hollybobs Skater. All of the papers, the sentiment and the bow are also from the collection. This was my first time of using the bows but you just cut out the pieces, I inked the edges and then assemble with a few dots of glue.

I used the Tim Holtz Sizzlits Snowflake set of dies on this card and added Bo Bunny gems and some Waterfall Stickles.

Copic Colours Used:
Skin: E50, E11, R02
Hair: E35, E37, E79
Scarf: G46, YG11, YG45, B91, B95, B97
Dress: R20, R17, R14, E09
Ear Muffs: W2, Y23, E53, W4

I hope you get time over the next week to hav e some fun with your dies and join the Polkadoodles Challenge. I look forward to seeing everyone else's wonderful creations.

A favourite shaped card for Christmas

As the year is quickly slipping away, I am trying to get a few Christmas cards made along the way so that I have some home made creations for a few special people. The new challenge at Polkadoodles Challenge blog using a favourite shaped card was the perfect opportunity to make a box card- I used several papers and lots of the delightful pre- coloured images from the Work and Play 5 Festive Hollybobs Collection. It is available as an instant download or as a CD. Fantastic value too! Just click on the link.

My box card uses a Santa, sleigh and present digi- all precoloured on the disc (these are also available as outlines for you to olour in your own way on the disc).
I resized the images in Word and made the sets of presents two different sizes so that I could place one stack behind the other to look like a huge cache!
THe sentiment was mounted using foam tape- I like to lift them off the base card so that they are not too hidden by bows and embellishments.
Bling, a bow, some red Bazzill and a little distress ink were all I needed to add from my stash- everything else was from Workand Play 5. Do pop over to the shop and check it out- if Christmas is not your thing there are so many other collections to choose from.
Thanks for stopping by, Jackie x

This month has a birthday theme and I have used one of the great digis  "Lucas" from
Zuri Artsy Crafty on Etsy.

Something New Challenge

The new challenge at Polkadoodle's Challenge Blog for this fortnight is to use something new to you. I waslucky enough to have the opportunity to play with the Work and Play 5 Collection- Hollybobs and now have my first Christmas card made!

The angel, sentiment, holly, heart and snowflake papers were all printed from the collection.
This was my first way of making a card in this fashion.
I used a spellbinders die to create a layer, a lace remnant, red bling and the blue paper has been embossed with a holly design. All pieces were edged in Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain- I think the inking takes away the starkness of white edges with fussy cutting.
Hoping to see lots of you playing with Something New for the challenge...perhaps you will choose something new from the Polkadoodles store!
Have a wonderful weekend, Jackie

Polkadoodles Blog Embossing Challenge

This week I have created a card for Polkadoodles using the digi ' Octavia Best Friends'. You can find the image here:
I have to say I really love this image- those who know me know I love owls so this image was a delight to colour.
Would you like the chance to win this digi image? Just leave a comment below and Nikki will be picking a winner. I will let you know who it is on my next blog post for Polkadoodles so check back soon and in the meantime visit the shop and maybe give in to a little temptation!

I coloured the image using the following Copic markers:
Skin: E51, E53, E93, E04
Owl: E30, E13, E15, E19, Y38
Dress: B91, B93, B95, B97
Hair: E32, E35, E37
W2 used for shadows

I used Kraft Core Nostalgic Collection Core'dinations Tim Holtz range (17). This was a lovely shade of blue and I put a piece of it in a Tim Holtz Snowflake embossing folder from the Alterations series before sanding it back to reveal the craft core. This paper was a little delicate to distress after sanding.
The embossing powder sprinkled on the card was Stampendous Frantage 'Shabby White'. I used this on the inside of the card along the edge to create a background texture for the snowflakes. The snowflake edge was made using 'Snow Flurries' On Edge Die by Sizzix- Tim Holtz.
I placed a white strip of snowflakes behind the blue ones to add a little more white and dimension to the card.
Other embellishments were mulberry flowers, parts of a blue Prima flower sprig, Provocraft Clear Rhinestones and a little Waterfall Stickles.
I hope my image inspires you to enter the  embossing challenge at:

Frame It- Polkadoodles Challenge Blog

How lucky am I to be able tobe a Guest Design Team member over at http://polkadoodles.co.uk/.
My first piece is for the blog page (http://polkadoodles.co.uk/blog/ ). I used the Oddella Twig digi to create a canvas frame. You can find the image using the link below:
Details for making the frame are given below.
I can hardly wait to see everyone's interpretations of the challenge "Frame It" over at the blog.
What will you be making?

Copic Colours Used for Oddella Twig:
Skin: E51, E53, E93, E04
Dress: YG11, YG61, YG67
Hair: W2, W4, W6, W8
Branch: E37
Scarf and Tights: V20, V22, V25

Paint a frame canvas frame with brown acrylic paint and allow to dry.
On a piece of paper (I used a sheet of old music paper) apply the tree background using Impasto medium and the Crafter's Workshop 'Woods' stencil.
Leave to dry or dry with a heat gun. Don't worry if the Impasto bubbles slightly- this just adds to the texture!!
Spray your paper with Dylusions Inks in 'Cut Grass' and 'Melted Chocolate'. Blot excess colour with a paper towel. Once dry wipe over some gold gilding wax.
Use a double layer of foam tape to add Oddella to the frame.
Colour some gauze using 'Cut Grass' spray and add this to the bottom of the frame.
Using Tim Holtz's on edge die 'Twigs' cut three border pieces from chipboard and colour with Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain. Attach using strong double sided tape and bend the branches to create dimension.
Cut strips of woodgrain paper to the width of the canvas frame edge. I used October Afternoon's Sasparilla 8x8 pad for my paper. Two of the strips were cut straight to the width of the frame and two strips were then mitred to cover the last two sides and create the look of mitred corners.
All pieces were edged with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.
To finish the front of the frame I added a TwiddlyBits black iron gate, mulberry flowers from my stash and some brown bling.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks for stopping by, Jackie.

Viva Las Vegas!!

What better way to spend a Monday WA public holiday than doing some crafting. Today I played with some of my stash of Viva Las Vegas stamps.

The gorgeous elephant here is a VLV stamp. I coloured it using Copics before adding it to my Journalling inspired card background. The background was created using Dylusions Spray Ink and a Dylusion stencil. I also stamped a lacy VLV stamp as a background in Dusty Concord Distress Ink. Black markers and white gel pen were used to highlight different shapes. Some arrows were hand drawn but the large one was another VLV stamp...this one is well used! Using the Distress Ink, I also went around the edge of my card and used the colour with a waterbrush to create some subtle shadows around the elephant. I am going to enter this card into the 'Use Bright Colours' challenge over at http://www.throughthepurplehazechallenges.blogspot.com.au/

This card is for my son for his birthday. The image is a VLV stamp. As it was not really an image to colour, I instead chose to put it on a background with some depth made from smooshed Distress Ink on watercolour paper. I used my Copics to throw in a touch of blue like the handmade paper used for the rest of the card. It is a little hard to see the gauze in the photo but nestled within it are microbeads. The sea die in the corner has been distressed. It is a new Memory Box die.

My last piece using a VLV stamp is actually an ATC. I have used distress ink to create the background and then stamped the image over the top. I used a waterbrush and gesso to add highlights as well as using some extra distress ink to add depth. The words on the card are from an old box and the cogs are from another Memory Box die. I simply chopped up the cog background piece after rubbing gilding wax over the whole section.
Thanks for stopping by, Jackie.

My Life Book so far!

I have joined some friends on a Life Book journey this year with willowing.org. Tamara is a talented artist who guides us each month with a tutorial. She has many guest artists and I look forward to seeing what new project is available each Monday. It is a great online course. I have not yet completed all the projects to date but have some of pieces so far to share with you.

This was my first one of Tamara's classes 'Beacon of Light' . I am having fun layering paint, stamps and papers. Can't believe I actually drew her face. Super teacher!

I have long admired the journaling style in many people's pieces of art. I have a way to go to finding my own arty style for this.

The dreamcatcher was fun to make. Lots of collage and painting. I think I will revisit this piece at a later date to get a bit more depth.

This was the hardest class...following a very quick time sped tutorial and then making a similar picture. The collage was fun but the painting a challenge. Enjoying playing with whimsical images.

The field study was fun and one day when I have more time I would love to have a book solely for exploring this more. Gumleaves and Gumnuts took over from feathers and shells.

This painting was made up of layers and layers of paint. I like this one...perhaps because I love owls so much. It was nice to use some different colours.

Lifebook is more than creating artwork...it is about having the confidence to express your thoughts and ideas. I am finding it a wonderful experience. Check it out and maybe have a go yourself at one of Tamara's workshops if you feel you are not ready for a whole year.
Happy making, Jackie x

Stampotique ATC Swaps

Hi everyone, I have had a weekend of catching up on some of my other projects as the Simply Betty Stamps Design Team has unfortunately disbanded. My posts have tended to be purely those images for a while so I thought I would share some of my other arty makes for this year. The first of these are some ATCs that I have made for the last three swaps at Stampotique. For each swap we make two different people an ATC. It is great fun getting a surprise from another part of the world.

My first swap with the group was on the theme 'Nursery Rhymes' I used Copic markers, Distress Stains, Black Memento Ink and White Gel Pen to them.

This swap got everyone thinking. It was called 'Switcheroo'. We had to cut up different stamped images and create a new image using the parts. The first one was my favourite- a mixture of human body and bee body parts. Lucky I found some stripy legs! I stencilled the honeycomb background and added Stickles to the wings.

This swap was called 'Photo Bomb'. I used foam tape on both of these ATCs to get one image to be in the foreground and make the other appear in the distance.
The swap I have finished this weekend is a Shiny/Metallic swap. I will reveal these when the swap is over. I can hardly wait for my ATCs to arrive from other artists!
If you like the idea of joining these swaps visit the Stampotique Facebook Page and click on Events. I hope some of you join in the fun...the more the merrier!
Thanks for stopping by, Jackie
