Star Fold Card

I have been wanting to make a star fold card for some time now and so chose to make one this week for the red, pink or purple challenge over at http://throughthepurplehazechallenges.blogspot.com.au/.
I used a sheet of 'Merry' paper from the Authentique 'Festive' paper collection. This pack included 12 sheets of cardstock as well as stickers and elements.
There are many detailed instructions for making a star card on the net. I have included a blog to help you http://dailygracecreations.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/star-fold-card.html. I am sure you will be able to discover others.  I made mine by beginning with a piece of the cardstock that was 12"x10 3/8" in size.
The Authentique paper was double sided and both sides can be seen in my finished card.

Once I had made my card, I added a centre which I attached to one point so that the card could still be opened. The large circular shape is a Spellbinders die from the beaded Circles set. The Spellbinders dies 'Venetian Motifs' was used to make the cream details. These were all edged with Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain before gluing in place.

Other embellishments I used were red fabric flowers from my stash, Flourish With A Bling rhinestones and pearls, an element sticker from the Authentique collection and red grosgrain ribbon for the hanger.

I think I will be making a few more of these this year for my crafty friends!

Gatefold Christmas Card

Here in Australia, we are not likely to see a white Christmas but I do love the thought of being surrounded by snow and being rugged up for a Northern Christmas.
This week I have made a Wintery Christmas card using a Tattered Teddy Stamp from Docrafts. The image has been coloured using Copic markers.
I cut out the image using a Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles die.This is one of my favourite sets as it has a good range of sizes in it.
I added small blue rhinestones from my stash around the die cut and then used Matte Accents under Ted to apply Diamond Dust for the snow.
White Bazzill cardstock was used to create the card. I then put some of the scrap paper through the Cuttlebug using a Sizzix Snowflake embossing folder. These pieces were precut to be slightly smaller than each of the front panels of the card.
Once these were adhered with tape, I taped the Teddy panel to the card front on one side.
The final touch was a snowflake created using Spellbinders Create A Flake 4. With all the pieces in this die set lots of snowflake combinations are possible. The jewel brad in the centre was an American Crafts Element from my stash.

Happy Birthday, Betty!

I love being a part of Simply Betty Stamps Facebook Group. Betty is such a generous person and I was glad to be able to make her a card as part of her Birthday Surprise. Well done to Corinne for all her planning and thank you to Tamara for the image. Tamara's link for this image is:

I coloured the image using my Copics:

Face: E51, E53 and R20 for cheeks

Hair: 100,W10, W8, W5

Hat and Dress: BV08, FV2, BV13, BV17

Skirt and Corset: R17, R35, R39

Skulls: W5, W2, W1

Bat: W10, N8, N6, N4

I added lilac Spica Marker to her eyelids.

The web in the background of the card was created by covering cardstock with foil tape. The card was then embossed using a Tim Holtz web embossing folder.

I covered the foil with gesso and once dry, applied Ranger Alcohol 

Ink in 'Butterscotch', 'Eggplant' and 'Red Pepper'. (Thank you, Kelsey for showing me this technique!)

The embossed design was then sanded back before I attached it to the card.

The final touch was a spider to complete my 'spooky' Birthday Card.

Speckled Eggs Card

I have been having fun playing with all of my inks lately and so pulled out some of these for this week's card.
I began by swiping some white card with a graduation of Brushed Corduroy to Peeled paint Distress Stain. I then flicked water over the card and dried it after waiting about 30 seconds for the water to leave it's mark.
Next, I placed TCW 6x6 template- Mini Branches on the top section of the card. I sprayed over it with Dylusions Ink Spray 'Dry Martini'. Mmmm. Mmmm!!
The card was cut to size and then edged with Walnut Stain Distress Ink.
I covered another piece of card with Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain and repeated the water marking process.
I used Black Archival Ink to stamp out the designs from Paper Doll Parts Stamps from Character Constructions. I have had these for a while and LOVE them.
The images were cut out, inked and then mounted on black cardstock before assembling the card.
I used frayed brown burlap around the title block (which was also foam mounted) and one corner of the focal image. The tag has a small piece of twine through it which I stained with Brushed Corduroy Distress Stain. To add a final bit of texture, I put stained lace across the bottom of the chair seat,too.
Oh, and NO glitter on this one...LOL!!

Birthday Card

This week at Through The Purple Haze Challenge Blog, we needed to create an item 'For The Girls'. I chose to create a Birthday card using a Simply Betty Stamps Digi.
The image is coloured with Copics and then sparkle has been added using orange and light green Spica pens.
I cut the image out using a Spellbinder's label die- carefully cutting around the top of the image so that I could use the die and have part of my image outside of the die shape. Lime Tart has a great tutorial on how to do this.I used the larger die to cut out out a second label out of black cardstock.
For the background, I pulled out an Ancient Basic Grey paper from a 6x6 pad "Gypsy" from my stash. The colours were pastel versions of those I used to colour the image. I then cut some Superstar borders from orange cardstock using a Poppy Stamps Die. These were brushed with Wild Honey Distress Ink before fixing onto the background paper. To cover the join I used some Webster's Trim from 'Let's Celebrate'.

Secret Pumpkin Exchange Hop

Halloween has just got to be one of the best times of the year. I love the decorations and an excuse to get dressed up. This year,  I joined in two swaps for Halloween over at Simply Betty Stamps Facebook Group. The second swap (this one) was a Secret Pumpkin Exchange. I had lots of fun collecting and making things for my parcel which I sent off to the States and was so excited to receive my delivery in the post. More surprises were in store for me though because my wonderful sender had also organised for me to have some money to spend at Betty's store. I chose to put her gift towards the Jude Holiday Bundle and I am sureI will be posting cards using these images soon!
My parcel contained many beautiful things including a handmade card which I adore. Some of the other items were a Halloween paper pad, heaps of cool Halloween decorations I can use on my cards- the glittery spiders and skulls were very cool!, stickers, ribbon and candy ( I had never had the M&M Candy Corn...yummo!!). The owl hand wash is hanging on my craft bag and my Halloween plaque is having in our living room with our other decorations. I would like to say an enormous THANK YOU for my Secret Pumpkin gifts. I will enjoy using everything x

A Final Halloween Card

Just five more nights until Halloween. I love all things Halloween and for this week have used a Day of the Dead image from Simply Betty Stamps. I've had this image coloured for a while but had not got around to putting it onto a card front. It has been coloured with Copics and then cut out and put onto background paper using foam mounting tape behind the image.
The patterned papers used in this card are from a 6x6 paper pad- Happy Haunting by My Mind's Eye. All paper pieces were edged using Ranger Black Archival Ink.
I went around the edge of the chevron paper with double sided tape and then wrapped Tim Holtz black tinsel twine around the paper several times to represent a web. I then placed the paper containing the image over the cross over of the tinsel. I made sureI used red backed tape here for super stick!!
Embellishments on the web include a tag "Fright Night" from Creative Imaginations Mariah Johnson's Wicked collection. There are heaps of great labels in this collection.
The little glittery spider was from a recent craft swap (as was the previous embellishment) and was adhered using foam tape.
In the corners of the page, I made little web embellishments by cutting a strip of spiderwebs using my Martha Stewart punch. I cut out sections of the web at right angles to adhere in the corners.
 I used Black Diamond Stickles over thecorner web shapes to add some sparkle and then put Frosted Lace Stickles on the veil of the image.
 KaiserCraft black bling was added down the side of the image card and randomly on the chevron paper to add some further interest.
